SoapFormatter will not serialize Generic Types

I did some research online about SoapFormatter, many people don't like it and think it should be deprecated.

Maybe it's too technical for me to understand, can someone explain it a little more for me why people trying to deprecate SoapFormatter?

What other way can I create a Soap file other than SoapFormatter in VB.Net?
