SQL Server Performance and data transfer

Hope that everyone is okey , my question is that i am making a system for a factory with sql server 2000 and vb.net technology , but the performance of the data transfer is not good , i mean that it takes too much of time to login and to retrieve data , do anyone know how to make the data tranfer faster thruogh LAN

in seriousness, have you determined what the slowest step of the login process is?
