Ripping & Burning Audio CD's need Help

Does any one know of how to burn or rip audio CD's.
I would prefer an api that could handle encoding the files aswell but anything or any info will do...
I have looked into using Lame encoder and an imapi wrapper (image mastering api) using redbook format but I would prefer something thats a bit easier.
