splash screen problem

Hi all, I am a relative newbie to vb and vb.net, and I am having massive problems with my splash screen disappearing after about 3 seconds. Now I have looked for timers, and also in the form properties but cannot fix this and it is driving me mad!!! any suggestions would be great.
