...wondering if there's a way to generate simple sounds at run time without having to play a WAV file?

I'm aware of the "Beep" command, but I would think there must be some way to alter the tone, duration, octave of a sound. I just need some little tick-tick-tick sounds that I can apply to an analog dial in my app to give it a ratchet sound effect.

Do I really need to create a wav file in some other app to do that? I don't really have any sound creation type software layin around.

What do you all recommend for generating/creating simple sound effects?

You can download a free 30 day evaluation of mixcraft. And you will need
a microphone to plug into your sound card jack.

also if you have a mic, do a windows help on recording. I think you can
record about 1 minute.

From start menu Accessories, Entertainment there should be the simple Sound Recorder mentioned where you can record 60 seconds of sound. I think it is included in all Windows versions.
