Replicating display

Hi,

I am toying with the idea of creating an application to facilitate the user, well me, in creating a family tree display.

I like the idea of being able to right click and adding nodes and a linking line between relations.

If you look at the query design form or the dataset designere form you will see the style, idea I am thinking of replicating.

I guess that each node would/could be a picture box but I'm unsure of the linking line.

I see in the designer forms that the nodes (tables) can be dragged about and the linking line moves with it.

Does anyone know if this is done using something tricky like in DirectX or something?

The nodes could be PictureBoxes or some other control, but the linking lines should be drawn using GDI+.
