I am not really familiar with the ping function / method in VS.net 2005, I am looking for a small example that can ping a host and give me back a true or false reply. I have found a few long drawn out examples but I just found out about this ping method in VS 2005.

Also wondering if VS 2005 has an easier way to pull an IP address...right now I am using

VB.NET:
Function getIPAddress(ByVal HostName AsString)
Try
Dim i AsInteger
Dim ipE As System.Net.IPHostEntry = System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(HostName)
Dim IpA() As System.Net.IPAddress = ipE.AddressList
For i = 0 To IpA.GetUpperBound(0)
Return IpA(i).ToString
Next
ReturnNothing
Catch ex As System.Net.Sockets.SocketException Dim exception AsString = "invalid host"
Return exception
EndTry
EndFunction

Actually I found that the following works:

VB.NET:
If My.Computer.Network.Ping("ipaddress") Then
'events
Else
'events
EndIf

good stuff...working on streamlining the process to get the ip address quicker...
