Heya,

I have a script that uses an SQL datasource and a gridview! Unfortunatly it throws me the "Input string was not in a correct format" error.

Ok can you also post the labels, day, month and year respectively ? Althrough it's more probably that you want to use textbox controls instead.

Also tell me what datatype are the fields eday, emonth and eyear in the table tblEvent. I am pretty sure you should redesign this table having a single DATETIME column so than you can query that like following:

SELECT blah blah ... FROM tblEvent WHERE DAY(TheDateColumn) = @EDay AND MONTH(TheDateColumn) = @EMonth AND YEAR(TheDateColumn) = @EYear

lblDay.text = day_num
lblMonth.text = m 
lblYear.text = tYear

day_num, m, tYear are all ints from other variables used elsewhere in my script. The database fields are all of type int! I fairly new to vb.net so am trying to keep it simple!

Well obviously day_num, m, tYear are not all integers. Also be sure that you first assign values to the labels and then databind gridview. If the text is string.empty the conversion will fail again.

However there must be something wrong with the integers you use as parameters. Please post the given values here. In the meantime try the following to be certain that the problem is not in your query:

SelectCommand="SELECT eday, emonth, eyear, etime, estudent FROM tblEvent WHERE ((eday = 10) AND (emonth = 10) AND (eyear = 2010))

day_num, m ,tYear are int. As far as i am aware there is nothing wrong with the query itself. I did test this first but it is just passing the parameters from the labels. Is there anyway of by passing the labels altogether and perhaps using just the variables them selves.

In php you can just merge the variables into the sql! Is there any way of doing that here?

Hmm you force me to guess here. It seems that label controls are not properly assigned with the values so that exception is thrown.
I doubt that your variables are accessible in the selecting event. I am afraid i can;t help further sorry. Well maybe if you explain your problem better i can help but with this little information i can only guess.

For some reason it is not getting any values into the SQl if i place for example the numbers 10,05 and 2011 in the sql it works! However if i replace it with dyanamic attributes it does nothing! All the labels are of type int! There is no error just does nothing. If you cant help me? has anyone got any ideas of any tutorials?

I'm slightly confused - where are you passing the parameter names and values for @day etc? I can see them in the SQL, but cannot see them anywhere else.

I think you should use code-behind to assign values to your label control. e.g. in the load event handler set their Text property. Btw, label cannot be of Integer datatype. It is label and can hold Integer value which is different.

In addition you should avoid the reserved words like date and time OR if you don't want to change it then surround them with [ ]

e.g. SELECT [Date], [Time] etc. etc.

t=That is what i done! Works like a charm... i looked at the sql example you gave me using the DAY,MONTH,YEAR functions in and worked from there!!
