DataAdapter/DataSet/CommandBuilder and how to Add/Delete/Insert Table Records?

Hi all,

I've just started VB.Net on SqlExpress edition, and I'm experimenting with basic database table modifications.

I have been using a book reference that shows OleDB Connection, DataAdapter, and CommandBuilder, but I'm connecting to SQL database tables.
So I've used SQL Connection, DataAdapter, and CommandBuilder commands. I did notice that VB.NET "auto-prompt" for the statement "CommandBuilder" did not show in the list of available Objects and Methods. However it did allow me to use the statement with out showing an error.
I have set a "Primary Key" in my database table, as this is required by CommandBuilder.

I have been unable to get the "Deleted" record removed from my database table, after many hours of Googling for possible solutions?

I would be most grateful if anyone can give me some guidance on basic Delete/Add/Insert database table modifications?

What value does your Update call return?

da.Update(ds,"ProfileRules") returns the following error: "Update requires a valid DeleteCommand when passed DataRow collection with deleted rows"

The problem is that you're creating two SqlDataAdapters. You create a data adapter and a command builder at the start and you associate the command builder with that data adapter. You then create a second data adapter when it comes time to use it and that one doesn't have an associated command builder. Don't create the second data adapter. Be aware that you are creating a new object every time you use the New keyword.

Ok, I've gone through it line by line and added comments to explain what I think is happening.
I have created a single SqlDataAdapter and CommandBuilder, and associated the CommandBuilder with the DataAdapter.

This results in no error condition, but the chosen record has not been removed fron the database table.

I'm new to this programming language, and I'm finding it hard work trying to get started on basic database transactions.
Do you have a "template" example, or "link" to show the sequence these statements should be in to achieve "Delete/Add/Insert" actions on a database table?

I've just returned from "Google Land", after many, many hours of investidating, and fiddling around with my example code.
I've changed my example shown above, to a very simple piece of code to demonstrate basic ADD, UPDATE, and DELETE actions.
