control creation tutorials

hi everyone,

i am currently in the process of creating a custom treeview/listview control. since i have never done this before, i feel like i am simply stabbing in the dark, hoping what i do is the right way and its extremely frustrating. does anyone know of any good tutorials or resources about the in-depth exploration of custom control creation? an explanation of how things work, what goes with what, etc etc.

i am banging my head against a brick wall with this, i desperately need someones help!
