Comfirmation on purpose of matrix

I went through the information of Matrix, and it seems to deal with drawing and i have no idea whether it can cope with normal data storage and processing or not. If not, any suggestion for data storing structure besides array. I am looking an effective way e.g. Matrix to store a huge number of data.
