How to zoom parts of a picture box?

The drawing shown in the picturebox takes the entire form 1024 x 768; the problem is that it is still too small for the operators to clearly see the details in the drawing.

Does anyone have any idea on how to do this?

 • When the cursor hovers by any part of the drawing and the moue is clicked, that specific part should zoom by 15%.
 • When the mouse is clicked again that same part of the drawing should zoom another 15%.
 • When the mouse is clicked again the drawing is restored to its original size.

…or I can just have a ZOOM IN and a ZOOM OUT buttons that will change the cursor to a magnifier glass. I appreciate all your suggestions.

Thanks

well the way is to use Graphics.DrawImage where u can scale the region copied.

for ex if dest is the destination image box where zoomed image part is displayed (this can be the same source image box - u can handle that part, I'm showing the basics)

Dim g As Graphics
g = dest.CreateGraphics
g.DrawImage(src.Image,
New Rectangle(0, 0, dest.Width, dest.Height), startXPosition, startYPosition, widthOfRect, heightOfRect, GraphicsUnit.Pixel)

g.Dispose()

here src is the src image box where u have the full image that u want to select a part from
startXPosition, startYPosition, widthOfRect, heightOfRect is the area that u want to zoom... based on the Zoom percentage u can select this dimentions.. zooming percentage depends on the dest dimensions (i.e. dest.Width, dest.Height) and source selection (i.e. widthOfRect, heightOfRect)

Hope this will help u

set up the pictureBox to strech and when you want to zoom image simply change its size i.e.
VB.NET:
Me.PicBox1.Width = Me.PicBox1.Width * 1.15
Me.PicBox1.Height = Me.PicBox1.Height * 1.15 'will zoom image for 15%

If you want to make it look like you zoom the particulary part of the picture just change its location (Left & Top) too but care to find mouse position and regard it move the picBox. About your last question how to make it back in original size after couple clicks you can declare an integer say "i" and increase it for 1 every time when mouse is clicked. i.e.

VB.NET:
Dim i as integer
Private Sub picBox1_mouseDown(........) handles picBox1.MouseDown
i+=1
If i > 2 then
'zoom the image
Else
'back image to original size - just care to take (pass in varialble) its size before you do any changes against the picBox
End if

HTH
Regards ;)

This does the trick:
VB.NET:
PictureBox1.SizeMode = PictureBoxSizeMode.StretchImage
PictureBox1.Width = CInt(PictureBox1.Width * 1.2)
PictureBox1.Height = CInt(PictureBox1.Height * 1.2)

Another Question:

I place a button on the form called “Actual Size” the problem is that when the image in stretched this button gets lost in a somewhere that the user cannot see.

It there any way to ALWAYS pins this button to one of the corners of the screen no matter how large the image is stretched?

All issues resolved:

VB.NET:
Public Class frmMain

I manage to get everything working the way I wanted.

Just for learning sake:

Instead of moving the image every time an arrow button is pressed, how can I make it move WHILE the button is pressed down?

Thanks

Set a flag when mouse button is down (down event) and call the corresponding method to move the image to coressponding direction, while checking the flag, (in a loop with given interval) reset the flag for the mouse up event.
