About Web Service return data type

i am writing a web service which is connect to MS SQLServer and get the data from it, for example, i "SELECT * FROM STUDENT" and i want to return the result for the application, which data type should i use?

I'm not experienced with Web Services but I was under the impression that they return a DataSet.
