window application connection

How do i open a connection to sql? I'm using window application and don't have the web config page.
When i add a jpeg file to wmp control playlist, can i control the time the jpeg file is displayed before jumping to the next file?
Also, is it possible to set windows to sleep mode and get it to auto wake up and start work again just by using window application? If it's possible please help me start off with some code. Thanks a million
