What is namespaces?

Just one more before you shoot off What's the deal with namespaces? I tried to dim some variables to hold property details in the applicationevents file and get message that statement is not valid in a namespace

Namespaces are used as an organizational system http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vblr7/html/vastmnamespace.asp

When using classes within a specific namespace you have qualify the object fully (System.Windows.Forms.Label for instance) or import the namespace in general with the Imports statement http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/vblr7/html/vastmImports.asp
