Vb.net intranet Software

What are the first steps about using vb.net? I have experience with vb6.0 and 2000 SQL Server. I am planning on making an intranet consisting of sql code to the main SQL database. I am currently using excel's data connection but I am looking for something more stable.

What is the best software/freeware to use?

If youre making an intranet website I recommend Visual Web Developer Express and SQLServer Express. Both are free
