Officially, VB.NET is now VB. The .NET was dropped from the 2005 round of tools and languages. VB6 is referred to as VB6 adn it and its forebears are often referred to as Classic VB. VB.NET is a language whose syntax is based on VB6 but conforms to the requirements of the CLI. If you're familiar with VB6 then the syntax will feel very familiar although there are some new additions, e.g. properties. There are also significant differences outside syntax that often trip up migrating VB6 developers, most notably the fact that VB.NET is fully OO. Often times, people see something that looks familiar and expect it to work the same way it used to but often it will not.
