since the IDE uses the framework directly for everything (except custom made controls)

could i uninstall the 1.1 framework and install the 2.0 framework and still use the vb2003 IDE?

i cant seem to find any documentation on doing this so i doubt it's possible

There is information on this on MSDN but I can't remeber exactly where. A .NET 1.1 app will use version 2.0 of the Framework if it is present and version 1.1 is not, but I'm betting that there would be some changes in version 2.0 that would break such a large app as VS. The question is, why would you want to remove version 1.1? There is absolutely no impediment to having as many versions of the .NET Framework installed side-by-side on a single machine as you like. I know people who had VS6, VS.NET 2003 and VS 2005 beta 2 all running without issue on the same machine, with versions 1.1 and 2.0 of the Framework installed.
