User defined formula

This is my current job problem please help.

I got i list of variables user can choose to keyin any formula like "(salary+overtime)/2", salary and overtime is a variable and is from different table. So i need to split it to get individual figure. Now the problem is how to combine back the figure to compute it.

can you not just put a hidden excel sheet in your app somewhere, and replace salary with A1, hoursworked with A2 etc, fill the cells with relevant values, put the formula in somewhere and read the result?

can embedded excel be used in this way?
