Trouble making an Instant Messenger

I have been trying to make an instant messenger. I found this tutorial. It works great when I use it locally. But, when I open it up on 2 machines, there is no communications. Does anyone here have any experience in creating a very simple instant messenger? Can anyone tell me if this code is missing something as far as connection to another computer through a router?

Could be a firewall issue. Might want to check with your local networking gurus about it.
