So I find it kind of ironic that this is a VB.net forum, programmed in PHP :p

Hey there guys, Im Kevin. I am a PHP programmer from the southwest US (AZ to be specific), and I just had an interesting meeting with the bosses...

"Kevin, we have an application we would like you to redesign."
Hmm alright sure I could do that...
"Its in VB 6.0. Heres VS2005"
/hands me a box
"Its due friday"

Completely disregarding that 1. I am a PHP programmer with SOME C/C++ knowledge 2. I dont know VB, and 3. They bought me VS2005 to edit a VB6 application..... I need to get this done, and I was kind of hoping I could join a nice VB forum, and maybe recruit some help now and then ;)

So Hello! :)
Some of the things ill be working with are ODBC, DSN, VB.net, VBScript, ASP.net, MSSQL, MySQL, IBM DB's, Oracle, and the kithen sink.
Any experience with these, tutorials, advice, etc. is GREATLY appreciated.

Didn't you know? PHP programmers always use VB.NET forum engines :eek::eek: It isn't a very known fact, since they are the only ones using it, the rest of the world uses the excellent vBulletin and similar PHP boards.

VS2005 was the best they could give you to edit a VB6 application. But with that time limit and your VB knowledge, no way... You could be lucky with the automatic upgrade though, just open the VB6 project and VS2005 will try to upgrade it to VB.NET. Usually I don't recommend that, because it can give you some nasty conversion problems and ancient coding relics that would be better if were forgotten. (sometimes fresh is better than fixed)

Ahh that is good to know. I heard that VS2005 can convery VB6 to VB.net. I have some VB4 programming experience, hopefully that helps?

Programming experience usually makes it easier to learn more programming.
