Question about publishing project

I'm new to publishing projects...

As part of my project that I've created I've got some text files that I want to reside in the Program Files folder that will be created (?) when publishing the project. How do I get that to happen?

As of now, while creating the project, the text files are just sitting in the same folder the actual project is located in, and that works fine. Once I publish the project, I get errors, as I don't understand where those files go.

When you add the file to your project (Add Existing Item menu choice) you can set "Build Action" and "Copy to Output Directory" in properties window. Default for text files is 'content' and 'do not copy' where you just have to change to 'copy always' or 'copy if newer'.
