Hello all,

This is my first post to the forums. I am new to .NET but have lots of Access/VBA experience. I am learning .NET and the best way for me to learn has always been to have an objective. I am not so good at thinking up my own project so am reaching out to you for help.

What would be a good first project in VB.NET to learn my way around? I would estimate my skill level to be high moderate/low expert in VBA, and moderate in SQL.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello Deltron, welcome to the forums :D

I feel that a project that you use to learn should be something that you want to do and something that you will have a use for. I have seen people suggest designing a simple ATM system for a project, but personally I don't think thats a great project as once you have completed it what do you have to show for it, a project that has no use to you. When I started learning VB (I think it was VB6 at the time) I created an application that I had a personal need for. I always used to burn my pizzas, so I created a count-down timer that I could set and would alert me when my pizza's were done. Thats probably too simple for you but the principle is there, because I had a need for this application I had that extra piece of motivation to build a decent application.

Anyway I know that hasn't directly answered your question but hopefully that will give you something to think about.

Satal :D
