short and simple i'm using a listview to display files and folders on the HDD and right now i have a folder icon in an imagelist that's displayed with all the folders in the listview

now what i would like to do is have the associated windows icon for all the files in the listview as well, without using a pre-defined imagelist

is there a way to get it from windows itself to use with the listview?

example for further clarification: *.doc files are associated with MS Word and i'd like to get the Windows Icon for the *.doc files and use it in the ListView

yes, that's exactly what i'm looking to do

though with it being in c# i'm having trouble converting it to VB as VB has trouble using the System.UInt32 and the Marshall functions

so how would i convert this to vb.net?
or how could i include a c# project containing 1 module with that code in it and use it in the vb.net project?

here's the c# code:
VB.NET:

using System.Drawing;
using System.Collections;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;
using System.Runtime.InteropServices;

Assuming you have a C# compiler, you can create a new Class Library project and add this class to it. Once compiled, you can then reference that library in your VB.NET projects. Alternatively, you could try some of the free code converters on the Web, although they aren't 100% accurate. There's one here, but there are others as well. If you Google "VB.NET C# convert" or something similar you should be able to find them.

yea, i've been trying various c# to vb converters and all of them apparently dont know how to use System.UInt32 to handle integer values of 01x0003 lol

and i tried making a c# class library and adding the *.cs file to it, but when it tries to compile it apparently System.Drawing and System.Windows dont exist in the framework

i dont get it, VS isnt cooperating with me today

-edit-

i made a user control project instead, of which that works (for the most part), but there are still some issues, apparently in one of the sub's i'm getting an "object not set to an instance of the object" error and thing is, i didnt modify the sub whatsoever and it works fine in a windows form app

here's the two projects (in c# too) if anybody would like to look at it, the demo one is the original author's of which works fine, the WindowsIcons one is mine of which doesnt work fo whatever reason
