Date and Time of SQL server...

I am currently writing some licensing security within my vb.net application, and what I want to do is get the date and time of either the machine that the SQL server is running on or if SQL server is able to return this info via SQL. I would prefer using SQL syntax if possible as my app. will be used in a large company where security is tight.
