Creating menuitems

I have two forms, form1 and form2.

What I need to do is use the mergetype property of the menuitems so that the child forms(form2) menu will override the parents(form1) menu. The problem is when i try this it doesn't seem to make any difference, the child form menu simply gets added to the end of the parents form menu.

Anyone know how i can fix this?

It toke me a while to figure it out but I got there in the end.
