I went on an interview a couple of weeks ago and was asked what my portfolio's web address is. I'm not new to web development but I was surprised. Especially when I considered the fact they had already been informed that all of my previous and current work is proprietary to the companies for which it was done. My career to this point has been to develop Financial, HR, AR and Billing applications.
While I have no issue sharing the code that does not contain database passwords or information on how a firm might calculate past due amount in their billing, I am not sure what is left to share. Even if I bite the bullet and share what code I can the people looking at it will never see a working application.
The interview left me with two questions:
1) How do I share my development skills with potential employers with out breaking contract with previous ones?
2) Being the only supporter of two children, where do I get web and database space that will allow me to write and run even personal projects, much less the varied types of applications the potential employers may want to see?
Any help would be apreciated!
