Collation of Data through NetWork

Hi !

One of my client has equipments ( Non-PC ) like a CNC Machine , Medical Equipment etc running at their customer place. Each one of these machines / equipment can be connected to a LAN at the customer place. The data being collected by the equipments ( like the current job position, the co-ordinates etc ) need to be collated and analysed at a central location.

I would like the data to be received at the server and database tables (SQL Server 2000) populated and the analysis part can be through another application.

How should I proceed about this ? What further information is required from my client / his equipments before any solution can be given ? Any directions and guidance is welcome.

It would depend on the equipment you're using and how it handles the information. I've always used OPC to work with non-pc equipment, but I don't know which one's right for you (we use Siemens, but thats for monitoring temperatures and running fans).
