hi,

what's the effect of not using .vsdisco path when adding a web reference? it seems the 'add reference' button is showing just by adding the full URL of the web methods without any .asmx or .vsdisco reference.

Thanks

vsdisco is a reference map pointing to one or more webservices the site hosts. All webservices expose their description by adding ?wsdl to their path, so when you link to the asmx the Studio find this description automatically which enables generation of the proxy class.

...thanks

but the thing is, I haven't linked the .asmx or .vsdisco yet. what I did was to get the domain name and put it in the URL text box and the 'add reference' button seemed okay with it as it was enabled. I'm not sure what will be the effect, but the app seems working...:)

A mystery, vsdisco was turned off by default since .Net 1.0 because it was considered a security risk. Actually vsdisco is not a "map" per se, but a setting enabling dynamic discovery of all webservices from that path.
