Gurock Software announced the release of TestRail 2.6, a new version of their web-based test management software. TestRail helps software development teams and QA departments to efficiently manage, track and organize their software testing efforts. TestRail 2.6 comes with support for tracking tests in progress, improved separate test steps and expected results, powerful user variables for bug tracker integration, new unique security options and many other improvements.

TestRail's new In Progress indicator makes it easy for testers to communicate the exact tests they are working on and to track all test times. Team leads and other team members can easily follow the progress of software tests as they get verified and also open a central list of tests they are working on. Combined with TestRail's flexible test run view and its customizable grids, the In Progress indicator provides a powerful way to see your team's workload at a glance.

TestRail 2.6 also introduces the new user variables, a great way to customize and improve TestRail's unique bug tracker integration. When integrating TestRail with tools such as Jira, FogBugz, Bugzilla or Redmine, administrators can now more easily map users between TestRail and their bug tracking tool of choice. User variables can also be used to customize other aspects of the bug tracker integration and optimize the integration for different team members.

Especially enterprise teams have strict IT policies they need to follow when introducing a test management tool such as TestRail. To make this easier for customers and provide additional useful security options, TestRail 2.6 introduces multiple new security capabilities. In addition to the already available user permissions and roles, TestRail now has options to implement advanced password policies, disable some default account options and restrict access to certain IP addresses and networks.

The new version also comes with many other enhancements and improvements. It's now easier to work with separate test steps and expected results as part of test case definitions, to create new partial test runs via TestRail's API and to work with larger test suites.

TestRail is installed directly on a customer's server or can be hosted online. The software is available for purchase for $239/user or teams can subscribe to TestRail Hosted for $25/user/month. A free fully-functional trial of TestRail (either hosted or downloaded) and an extensive product tour can be found on Gurock's website.
