The Software Development Manager I has responsibility for overseeing and defining the technical direction of software initiatives. This includes ensuring that technical milestones are met, reviewing change requirements as produced by the Product Managers, contributing to task scheduling, and working with other software teams with regards to overlapping development tasks. This position also includes full resource management responsibility for technical staff including annual reviews, compensation adjustments, hiring, and conflict resolution.

The Software Development Manager I provides technical and management assistance to technical staff involved in the design, development and maintenance of web-based software using Microsoft C#.NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server 2000, ASP, XML, and MSMQ. Systems deal with very large datasets (hundreds of Gigabytes) as well as high-transaction volume and high-availability web applications.

The Software Development Manager I must deal effectively with both external partners and internal stakeholders. Excellent communication and organizational skills are necessary.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Management of technical staff in the definition and implementation of systems. This involves overseeing the system design, development and maintenance of high-transaction volume, high-availability web-based software using Microsoft C#.NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server 2000, ASP, XML, and MSMQ.
• Develop and manage to specifications, project schedules and quality standards such that deliverables and commitments are met.
• Effective customer communications and expectations management.
• Validation of requirements and requests as it relates to technical constraints and feasibility.
• Effective status reporting and escalation of exceptions.
• Make and support architectural decisions.

Experience and Skills:

• Development management experience of 5 or more technical staff.
• Full life cycle development experience with Microsoft C#.NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server 2000, ASP, XML, and MSMQ.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Good leadership and mentoring skills
• High-level design, coding, and troubleshooting skills.
