slow loading of data

How do you make loading from database into a listbox (located in the web form) much faster. Lets say 30,000 rows with only one column being displayed on the listbox. The details are loaded into the listbox during the loading of the page.

From my computer, it has been very slow. About 1 min. to load all that words.

Here's an idea: Dont load 30,000 rows into a listbox.
