Question SCCM beginner question

I am looking for a way within vb.net to query sccm for a workstation name or list of workstation names and return the results to an array. I have created a way to use an existing report and capture the output when the report is exported but I have to do this for each item in the list of workstations.

I was thinking there would be a way to query exactly what i wanted from the sccm site without have to build a collection or specific report.
