Run time error

Hi,

I have a VS 2005 32bit app compiled with ANY CPU, it contains some DLL and COM DLL files.

I tried copying the EXE and the DLL files to Windows Server 2008 R2 but when I run it I get this error.

I can't figure out what's happening, if I put the same files on Windows 2003 Server or any other PC they work fine, just not on this 2008 server.

COM libraries must be registered in system to be used, and this is what the COMEXception message says, it trying to access a COM library that is not registered in system, MpvViewOCX probably.

I think you are on the right track but MpvViewOCX is registered as it can run under it's own sample file it installs. The problem is trying to figure out which OCX .

Then when I do what do I do use regsvr32?

It may also happen if you're running the AnyCpu on 64bit, while the registered COM library is compiled for 32bit. If your app has a 32bit dependency you must compile it for x86 for it to run correctly in 64bit OS.

Use Configuration Manager and set Platform to x86.

It doesn't matter, use the default 'copy from Any Cpu' to have the other compile options copied from that configuration. Copying from <Empty> just creates a profile with PlatformTarget and OutputPath set, other compile options would be default. The PlatformTarget is set appropriately based on the predefined platforms.

Ok - no lucky with that I think you are right that I need to compile as x86 but one of my OCX/DLL is the main problem. My problem figuring out which!

Thank you all for the advise, turns out that I had to update my Active Report DLLs eventhough I was using the same version in development and release. Maybe it had to do with the 64bit OS. Not sure - don't care (sort of) - it works! Got me out of a very big hole!
