Hey, I use the following to make sure that no letters can be typed in my search field (searches the ID which is numeric only)

VB.NET:
Private Sub txtDWRNo_KeyPress(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtDWRNo.KeyPress

If IsNumeric(e.KeyChar) = False Then e.Handled = True

End Sub

And so that only letters can be typed you can use

VB.NET:
Private Sub txtDWRNo_KeyPress(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtDWRNo.KeyPress

If IsNumeric(e.KeyChar) = True Then e.Handled = True

End Sub

You will notice that you can't use Backspace in the numeric textbox though, only Delete.

If you're using .NET 1.1, as you're profile suggests, I'd recommend the NumberBox in the WFC library from my signature. It is the best implementation I've seen. Even that MSDN topic doesn't take into account all possible issues. It doesn't prevent you entering multiple negative signs or decimal points, or negative sings or seperators in invalid places.

I assumed that certain textBox control is named textBox2 ... then just paste this code there:
VB.NET:
Private Function OnlyNumeric(ByVal Key As String) As Boolean
If (Key >= 48 And Key <= 57) Or Key = 8 Then
OnlyNumeric = False

e.Handled = OnlyNumeric(Asc(e.KeyChar))
ElseIf Me.TextBox2.SelectionStart >= 4 Then
e.Handled = OnlyAlphabetic(Asc(e.KeyChar))
End If
End Sub

Regards ;)

Actually i made it that 1st four chars can be only numeric and rest four letters but you can change it if you want different order (1st letters and then numbers)
