This is a limited appointment position with an end date of 6/30/2013. This position is also project funded and is not eligible for severance pay.

The Student Services Technology team provides all manner of computer systems support to the areas of Undergraduate Admissions, the Graduate School of AS&E, Student Services (Registrar, Bursar, Financial Aid, Career Services, Undergraduate Education and Dean of Students, Dean of Undergraduate Education, Student Services Desk Team) and admissions support to Fletcher, Nutrition, Veterinary, Sackler schools. The team also programs and hosts web based services to enrolled students, faculty, parents and alumni. The staff is primarily dedicated to programming custom systems, both Windows-based and web-based; database management/reporting and mass communications campaigns; network, system and server administration; and web service development, design, and hosting, and desktop support.



The 5 person team programs custom processing systems on a Windows platform on the campus's NT network using the .NET development platform in VB.Net, ASP, and Visual FoxPro (VFP) via SQL. These systems are used primarily by staff in support of many of the university's mission critical processes.



The team also develops and manages a large number of web-based service portals to current students, faculty, staff, alumni, high school counselors, prospective students, applicants and their families. These public facing applications are designed, developed, hosted and administered by the team. The team also develops, host and maintains the web presence of its customers' informational websites.



A major system overhaul is underway by our team currently to migrate our multiple legacy VFP systems to SQL Server, C# and VB.NET.


The Programmer Analyst is responsible for supporting the existing Visual FoxPro environment during our conversion to SQL-Server, C#, and .NET, along with contributing to the conversion. Key responsibilities of this position include supporting and maintaining Visual FoxPro applications, converting VFP to SQL-server and C#, in addition to fulfilling production and report requests, and creating documentation as needed.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) years of related experience
  • Visual FoxPro, VB.NET, C#, SQL Server, T-SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Demonstrated knowledge of data management tools.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices.
  • Strong problem solving and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent testing and debugging skills.
  • Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure from multiple competing deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience in data and application migrations.
