The code as it sits now doesn't give me any result when I try and insert the record from the VB.net form. However when I modify the stored procedure to exclude the SELECT STATEMENT for the @@ROWCOUNT and only RETURN the @intReturnValue for the INSERT STATEMENT then it works fine. Hoping someone can help me with this.

Where a stored procedure is concerned, a return value and an output parameter are two different things. Think about a function in VB. That function can return a single value and it can also output multiple values via parameters declared ByRef. Stored procedures are the same: they can return a single value and/or output multiple values via parameters declared OUTPUT. You need to first decide which you want to do.

If you want to return a value then you don't need to declare a corresponding parameter in the SQL at all, just like in a VB function. If you want use output parameters then you don't use a RETURN statement. In your VB code, you do add a parameter to your SqlCommand but you must specify whether its Direction is ReturnValue or Output.
