Obtain PK in a variable

I have a database in my data source called: HotelBookingsDataSet I also have a table named: Patron within the table I have numourous fields named ID(PK), socialNumber, Name, Lastname and Phone. I have created a query that extracts the data with the following:
VB.NET: 
getDataBy(id) - Select[ID], [socialNumber], [Name], [Lastname], [Phone] FROM [Patron] WHERE [socialNumber] = @id
I now want to store the [ID] in a variable to be used later for quick reference. Please assist. below is some of my coding:

Your last two lines of code don;t actually make sense. You're not going to get the ID and then use that to get the row because you have to get the ID from the row in the first place. That query is only going to retrieve one row at most, so you should first test that the table has rows, which you would do by testing that the Count is greater than zero, and then get the (one and only) row at index zero, just like getting an array element. You can then get whatever property value(s) you like from that row.

Index the table to get the row, get the appropriate property value from the row and assign it to the variable. Are you saying that you don't know how to do that? You've never got an element from an array before? I know that you've got a value from a property before and I know that you've assigned a value to a variable before.

This has got nothing whatsoever to do with databases, so that's not relevant.

You're determined to make this harder than it is and you're not reading what I'm posting. You're looking at the words but you're not reading them. Once you have the DataTable, which you're doing in this line:
VB.NET: 
Dim patronDataTable As HotelBookingsDataSet.PatronDataTable = tableAdapter.GetDataBy(id)
Then you just have to do the three simple things that I stated earlier.

1. Index the table to get the row

As I have said more than once, it's just like getting an element from an array by index. You obviously already know how to do it because you're doing it more than once in the code you just posted.

2. get the appropriate property value from the row

You obviously know how to get a property value because you're doing it several times in the code you posted. In fact, you're even getting the ID property.

3. assign it to the variable

You obviously know how to assign something to a variable once you've got that something because, again, you're already doing it in the code you posted.

You're already doing all the things I've told you to do. You're just not doing them in the right place and you've added a bunch of extraneous stuff. Just read what I have posted and follow the instructions; no more, no less.
