new Google API?

Hello everyone,

I have ZERO experience with API's, I want to start developing windows applications that use the Google API.

For instance, I want to be able to search Google from my application, and pull the top 100 results into my app, use Google's spell check etc etc

I found some tutorials but they are old, Google's entire API structure changed, there are now more than one API.

I don't have a clue where to start, would appreciate it if someone could show me which API to use and how to start.
