Master\Detail without using datagrid control

I am trying to create a master\detail form, but not use all data grids. I would like the master to be in a detail form. I can find plenty of help on creating master\detail forms using data grids and they work fine but when I create one using the detail view for the master and grids for the details the relationship between the master and detail does not seem to work. Does anyone know where I can find some informtion on how to create these types of forms?
