Hi all,
I'm making a little chat program for friends and family to use. I am using a single port for everyone to connect, add text, smileys and audio.
Everything is going well apart from a sound issue I have within the server. Text is unaffected.
When playing audio, everything starts out fine, then a sudden 'dead air' is heard, audio stops and clients are unresponsive for maybe 5 to 15 seconds before it restarts again and everything is back to normal.
Looking at the server console window I see that sometimes, just before the audio cuts I will get and invalid packet flag up which makes me think the server is getting out of sync or lagging in some way, also the bytesRead pretty much stays level at 496 bytes but occasionally it will go up to 700, 2000, even 8000 then audio is lost again.
I've added a couple of lines so the server will disregard invalid packets or the size is too big but it still happens.
Here's the servers receive code (with the uninteresting bits removed)
I have 2 PC's next to each other so I can run the server and client on one, and another client on the other.
In this setup, I get occasional errors(maybe 1 every 10 or 15 minutes)
but if my friend from 6000 miles away connects, it repeatedly cuts out every 30 - 40 seconds.
I suppose there's always the 'BroadcastExclude' and 'SendMessage' routines to take into account but this seems to be reading issue(to me).
I'm fairly sure the client is not the problem as I've watched inputs and outputs from the console window and I have never seen it send an invalid packet.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what might be causing the problem??

EDIT!! Maybe it's not the server after all, I've just found that the server continues to transmit data, and the client gets stuck in a loop until it reaches 10000.
Still, doesn't explain why it should freeze more often over a greater distance..

I have 2 PC's next to each other so I can run the server and client on one, and another client on the other.
In this setup, I get occasional errors(maybe 1 every 10 or 15 minutes)
but if my friend from 6000 miles away connects, it repeatedly cuts out every 30 - 40 seconds.
I suppose there's always the 'BroadcastExclude' and 'SendMessage' routines to take into account but this seems to be reading issue(to me).
I'm fairly sure the client is not the problem as I've watched inputs and outputs from the console window and I have never seen it send an invalid packet.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what might be causing the problem??

EDIT!! Maybe it's not the server after all, I've just found that the server continues to transmit data, and the client gets stuck in a loop until it reaches 10000.
Still, doesn't explain why it should freeze more often over a greater distance..
