Looking for reading suggestions (Sharepoint)

I recently moved company and have had to revisit old skills, I use the word skills loosely! I havent been developing in ages so had to re-aquaint myself with vb.net while working on a project I was given. Now I have been asked to develop a sharepoint site. The company have WSS 3.0 on a server but it hasnt really been used.
I have Visual Studio 2010 but believe i may need to download Sharepoint Designer 2007 to get anything done. Anyway , starting from the very beginning with sharepoint and need to fast-track my skills.
can anyone suggest any good reading on this? Books/Blogs etc

I am thinking of recommending sharepoint 2010 foundation. Still not even sure if VS2010 can do it all though, or if I will need to also use sharepoint designer as well...
