How to write a print object

I'm not even sure what the proper terminology is for it, but I want to create (in vb.net or C#, or even C++ if need be) a user installable printer, similar to ones like cute pdf, that install like a printer but instead of printing send the data to a pdf file. Mine will not create a pdf file, but will poke the data into a database, no matter.

Where can I find information on creating this 'printer' using vb.net? (or some other language for that matter)?

Its called a Virtual Printer.

I found this: Virtual Printer SDK for Win 7, C++, C#, Delphi, VB.NET, VB from a company that that seems to offer an sdk just for this sort of thing.

I'm not thrilled about the price, but if I worte it the cost in man-hours would be a whole lot more that what they are asking, I'm sure.
