How easy\hard is ASP.Net?

I am a vb.net (newbie and not the best to be fair )and my company has suddenly decided they want a web based app for contractors to access and check what orders we are allocating to them. How difficult is it going to be for me to knock something up? Any pointers as to best practise with security etc.. regarding DB access etc?

(By the way they want me to sort summot out within the next month and a half I am proper up against it here.)
