Developing vb.net mobile application

VB.net windows application:
I'm new to developing mobile application.
I want to develop the database driven mobile application.
Most of the wap enabled devices should be able to use my application. And my phase one plan would be
Send the SMS with beep as soon as my DB is updated
And get the response from the user

I am using Visual studio 2005 to develop the application.
I do not understand which SDK should I use, as there are many available in market eg Crossfire, Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Pocket PCPocket PC.
What are the pros and cons in choosing the development environment for vb.net application ?
