The only code allowed outside methods is declarations. You can initialise a variable on that declaration line but not on a line of its own. For instance, this is allowed outside a method:

Dim x As Integer = 100

but this is not:

Dim x As Integer

x = 100

The second line is not a declaration so it's not allowed outside a method.

In your case, you should handle the Load event of the form and move all your calculations and assignments into the event handler.
