data Row Number in Datatable from Child Datagrid

I have a wee problem I am allowing useres to edit the datagrid contents but not within the datatgrid, the datagrid contains child records. when trying to update the criteria I have to update a datarow within the datatable but I am unable to edit this because there is no row value within the datatable can someone help.
