Hi. I have a number of different apps being used by customers - most of these still use Access 97 (yes, 97, not 2007!) as a backend database, either in VB6 or VB.Net 2005.
Can anyone recommend a replacement that is faster, more secure and capable of being automatically installed by the installer setup.exe file.
The latest Access is an obvious contender, but is that the best?
I already use MySQL and SQL Server Express for those apps I install myself, but I figure that installing SQL Server is beyond the ability of most users.
My users are shop keepers, ferrymen, housewives - they do not have an IT Department or any 'knowledgeable friend'.
The database should be 'rolled up' in a single downloadable Setup.exe which of course contains the app.exe and all the dlls in the usual way (I use InnoSetup), which requires only the ability to click on the only visible button, the one that says 'Click here'.
Your views and experience will be welcome.
