can i get images of an application?

i want to get an image of a running program in its current state. like how the thumbnails are displayed over the taskbar in vista. but i only want a method to get the picture, i have different applications in mind for the image

This was talked about in another post. The person even provided some code. There are things in the Windows API you can implement in order to accomplish what you are talking about.
