Calculations?? Where to start?

Im very new to this and im trying to write a program that will run some calculations for me.

I want to have "x" number of sections to each project, and each section has "y" number of segments. The forulas are all the same, i just need to be able to adjust the number of "x" sections in the project, and "y" segments in each section. I also need to be able to total it all and make some reports of the information, and save it to a file I can edit and review later.

If some one could give me just a point in the right direction It would be great. I dont know where to start, arrays,database, or even some other form of data storage and manipulation. Thanks so much for any suggestions anyone could give.

Use Excel.

Take a look at using Arraylists. You don't have to specify how many elements an arraylist has to take, so for your situation you can use an arraylist that contains more arraylists.
